This capitalisation note is part of the ongoing evaluation of Inter Aide’s health programmes funded by the AFD between January 2024 and December 2026.
Since 2014, Inter Aide has been implementing a community health programme in various districts of Malawi, aimed at reducing infant and child mortality and improving quality of care in rural health facilities. As part of this programme, various forms of material support were provided: donations of essential equipment, construction or rehabilitation of key infrastructures, etc.
Does the material support of the project (donation of equipment, construction and rehabilitation of health structures) allow for a sustainable improvement in access and, secondly, in quality of health care?
This evaluation question was identified as particularly relevant by the Malawi programme teams in early 2025. Several activities were subsequently undertaken to answer it, notably a listing of all material support provided between 2014 and 2025, and the evaluation of their current status (as of beginning of 2026).
The note presents the conclusions and lessons learnt from this work, and sets out concrete recommendations for Inter Aide’s activities in Malawi. The listings established for each region are given as annexes. A PowerPoint summary was presented to all Inter Aide health programme managers in August 2026 and is also available below.
